Sexual Assault

What is Sexual Assault?

Sexual assault is any type of sexual activity or contact that you do not consent to. Sexual assault can happen through physical force, threats of force, or when the attacker uses drugs, alcohol or coercion. In the United States, one in three women has experienced some type of sexual violence in their lifetime.

Domestic violence perpetrators frequently utilize sexual violence to help control or punish their victims. Regardless of if you are in a dating relationship, are married, or have had a consensual physical relationship in the past, you still have the right to refuse or revoke consent at any time. If you have been assaulted, it is not your fault, regardless of the circumstances.
